Traveling with Camera

I'm going to be flying soon and I wanted to carry on my camera and small amount of equipment in my Canon camera backpack. Has anyone ever had a problem carrying on their DSLR? Thanks!!

My daughter and I went to CA in November. We each carried on our DSLR Camera Bags. No problems in the airport.
Only problem I encountered was when the overhead baggage area filled and we had to put our carry on's down below. So my suggestion is to make sure it will fit under the seat. I had two carry on's and had my laptop in one and my camera in the other. The one that fit under the seat was safe...the one for over head had to go below. (This only happens sometime.)
Other than that...I had no problems at all.

(Another suggestion is make sure when it goes thru the x-ray machine....wait for it to go thru before you proceed thru yourself. So that no one snags it and walks away with your equipement.)

i have flown with mine about 20 times and have never had a problem. just dont forget that you put a couple screwdrivers and a crescent wrench in your camera bag. i guess they thought i was going to take the plane apart in my short trip across the country.

I travel by Amtrak most of the time, so I don't have to deal with heavy security...just bomb sniffing dogs walking up & down the aisles from time to time. And they don't care about camera gear.

Actually the last flight I took in the summer of 2006 to Michigan for training I had no problems bringing my camera gear along. They just hand checked it at the metal detectors and had no issue with it. It was all in a backpack along with my laptop that would fit in the overhead compartment (no way I was checking my gear in!).

Does it damage the camera or SD cards if they go through the X-Ray machine at the security checkpoint?

Nope, not at all. And with the machines now, only higher speed film (I think 800 or faster if I recall correctly) will be affected by the machines.

ive flown with all my gear and then some in my bag.. just carry it on and youll be good... no Doc, the xrays are fine... I went home from Olympic natl park with 4- 4gig cards, one 2 gig card and a couple digital vhs tapes and not a one was bothered.. just be sure to carry it on, and do not let it out of your site.. i didnt even put it in the overhead or underthe seat.. just on the floor between my legs. and you can take it out and shoot clouds if your in a window seat..lolmight not wanna use flash though. esp if its a night flight.
